WHO THIS IS FOR

An electrician for homeowners and businesses who value clarity.

If you want an electrician who:

Explains what's involved before starting

Confirms scope before pricing to avoid surprises

Takes personal responsibility for the work, end-to-end

Follows Australian Standards without cutting corners

You're in the right place.

It's Lit is a deliberately smaller, owner-operated business. This allows for direct communication and accountability, which may not be the right fit for every job, but is ideal for clients who prioritise careful, methodical work.

We focus on small to medium residential and commercial projects in Canberra.

...Most problems with electrical work come from rushed decisions or assumptions.

Our 7-Step Process to Ensure Clarity and Safety

  • 01: Initial Discussion

We talk through the job and your concerns to understand your needs. We encourage you to send photos to help us quote accurately.

  • 02: Site Assessment

A site visit is done if assumptions would affect safety, compliance, or cost. We do not charge a call-out fee.

  • 03: Scope Confirmation

We confirm the exact scope of work with you before preparing a quote.

  • 04: Clear Quoting

You receive a clear, written quote with no hidden fees, typically using our standard rate of $125+GST /hour.

  • 05: Scheduling & Documentation

Work is scheduled at a time that suits you (we're typically booked 2 weeks in advance) and documented in our system.

  • 06: Safe Installation

Work is completed safely, neatly, and to AS/NZS 3000 standards.

  • 07: Verification & Handover

We conduct testing and final checks, and explain the work to you before leaving.

About It's Lit Electrical

Hi! I'm James! And here's why I started my electrical business.

I'm Belconnen born and raised. After years as an electrician in Canberra, I noticed a common issue: tradies often couldn’t or wouldn’t explain their work. They always seem to struggle to share why it matters or what it truly costs.

So I started It's Lit Electrical with a simple idea: what if an electrical service actually put people first?

What that means for you:

  • Free quotes that actually mean something.
  • Clear communication. We explain what we're doing and why.
  • Honest advice. Even if it means less work for us.
  • We take time to listen. Good service starts with understanding what you actually need.

Growing up as a local Canberran in Belconnen, I understand the value of community and connection. Whether it's a small electrical repair or a major installation, we take pride in doing the job right and making the process easy for you.

The reality:  We're a local team serving the local Canberra community. We might not be the biggest, but that means when you call, you're talking to someone who knows your job, not a call centre.

Who We Work With

FAQs

Answers to common questions about scope, process, and expectations.

Call James Now
  • Are you fully licensed and insured in the ACT?

Yes. Our ACT Electrical Licence number is 202107. We are fully insured for public liability through Creedence Insurance (underwritten by Zurich). All work is completed to Australian Standards (AS/NZS 3000) and we are a member of the National Electrical and Communications Association (NECA).

  • This looks like a newer business — should I be concerned?

It's Lit Electrical has been operating since 2023. The owner and electrician, James Westmacott, completed his apprenticeship at CIT Canberra in 2019 and has been a licensed electrician since 2020. Before starting It's Lit Electrical, he gained valuable experience working for On Point Electrical, an established Canberra electrical contractor (another great electrician company).

  • Who will actually do the work at my property?

This is an owner-operated business. The electrician you speak to on the phone, James, is the one who attends your site and completes the work. We do not use subcontractors.

  • How do you avoid surprise costs?

Our 7-step process is designed to prevent this. We confirm the scope of work with you before providing a written quote. If we identify anything during the job that might affect the cost (like old or unsafe wiring, which is a common variable), we stop and discuss it with you before proceeding.

  • What kind of warranty do you provide?

We provide a 2-year workmanship warranty on all our installations (yep, we back ourself 100%). This covers any issues that arise due to our installation process. Materials are covered by their respective manufacturer's warranties. If you have an issue, call James directly and we'll respond within 24-48 hours.

Ready to discuss your electrical needs?

If you're unsure where to start, talk through your job first. There's no pressure to proceed, just clear, honest advice. We aim to respond to all enquiries within 60 minutes.
